The Witch of Tongues:
After losing her father and her right eye in a car accident, twelve-year-old Lydia Ramirez and her mom are forced to relocate to Relic’s Rest, Ohio to live with her aunt and cousin—something Lydia absolutely does not want to do. She’ll have to attend a new school, make new friends, get used to a new town, and worst of all, deal with her mean cousin.
What Lydia soon discovers is that Relic’s Rest holds a grim secret. Local legend says a witch used to live there, Adeliza Barrowe, who was believed to be putting hexes on the people of old, cursing them until she was accused of witchcraft by a child and punished by the townsfolk.
The tale appears to be true as Lydia stumbles upon the witch’s grave out in the forest and accidentally awakens her dark spirit. Now Adeliza Barrowe is back from the dead, and aims to take her revenge on the children of Relic’s Rest by doing to them what was done to her:
Stealing their tongues.
Mori Quinn and the Coffin Game:
Moribeth Quinn is a loner. And when her parents drop her off at summer camp, she dreads the days ahead. Mori doesn’t know any of the other kids there, and she’s always had a tough time making friends.
But much to her surprise, she befriends a pair of girls. However, along with new friends comes a new bully—a boy who challenges them all to a creepy dare: sneak out of camp at night to a nearby cemetery, and see who can last the longest lying in the old coffins without getting scared.
What turns out to be a simple dare turns into a nightmare when the coffins somehow transport them all to a strange land of fantastic people, melancholy ghosts, and terrifying monsters. Mori, alone once more, must reunite with her new friends, escape back home, and avoid the forces of the Viscera Queen who terrorizes the land, all while cooperating with the bully that caused all this!
