Crystal Lake welcomes author Michael Porter!

Michael Porter is a husband, father, teacher, and lifelong horror obsessive whose love for the genre began with The Real Ghostbusters episode “The Collect Call of Cthulhu” by Michael Reaves. That first encounter with cosmic terror ignited a fascination that never left. Since then, Michael has chased shadows, monsters, and the quiet horrors that live between memory and imagination.

He’s wandered through castle ruins along mist-covered Scottish lochs, explored the dark forests of western Pennsylvania, and gathered inspiration from the eerie spaces where history, myth, and fear intersect. Now living in Chesapeake, Virginia, Michael balances life as a teacher and a dad with writing unsettling tales about the darkness that leaks into ordinary lives.

Horror has always been home for him, the place where curiosity meets dread, and his stories reflect that deep love for atmosphere, mystery, and the unknowable. His favorite horror film is Event Horizon, because he firmly believes the scariest places aren’t haunted houses…they are the voided spaces that stare back at you.

Crystal Lake will be publishing Kellum House in 2027.
