Tell us a bit more about you and where you’re from.
Armand: Born and raised in New Jersey but moved to Florida in 2001. Married to a wonderful, supportive woman who keeps me grounded and lets me bounce ideas off of her, and tells me when they’re awful. Sometimes she even likes them and I write a story!
What inspired your winning story? Why did that particular theme resonate with you?
Armand: Gotta be honest… not a huge Halloween fan. I don’t dislike it, but growing up it was not that big of a deal to me. I do love reading and writing horror and the idea came to me quickly. Wrote the story in one sitting, and it all began because of the title. Wanted to write a main character who was creepy and off named Harold for whatever reason. The title, “All Harold’s Eve,” was the obvious choice. Where did it come from, though? No clue. Another idea bouncing around in my head I needed to pull out.
When, and why, did you start writing?
Armand: Dean Koontz. I started reading him in 1982 as a twelve year old and I never stopped. I knew from that point writing was going to be my career, although it took me a long time to get to the point where I started to earn a living as a writer and making this my full-time job.
