Crystal Lake signed another book with author John Ward, and we are very excited for his second adult novel!
John Ward is a horror author hailing from Northeast Ohio. He has been enamored with horror stories and films since he was a young age – sparked by his fascination with the Goosebumps books. In 2023, John decided to break into the horror industry by writing his very own middle grade horror series, Scareville! He wanted to bring back fun, exciting, yet spooky stories for young readers of the modern age, while also serving up nostalgia for the adult readers as well.
John loves writing horror for everyone and inspiring today’s young readers. Recently, John has dipped his toes into the world of adult horror, completing several short stories for anthologies, a full-length novel – A Blackened Heart, A Blackened Soul – and has also recently completed his second novel, An Unforgiving Nature. More works will be on the way for both Scareville and his adult horror reads.
An Unforgiving Nature will be published in January 2027.

An Unforgiving Nature is a creature feature and folk horror novel set in the alpine hills of Mount Rainier National Park.
After losing her fiance in combat in Afghanistan, Lindsey Wilson and her friends embark on a journey to fulfill one of his wishes, which was to visit the park after he returned from duty and spread his ashes in the park. The group was unaware of how many visitors Mount Rainier got on a daily basis and made the decision to veer off trail to take in sights that very few people would get the opportunity to see. They would eventually find out why straying off the beaten path was not a wise choice.
